Kudos go to the governors of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and to New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg  on their exemplary crisis communications during Hurricane Sandy.

Through press and phone briefings with the media, they kept the public updated on the latest developments as they occurred.   Their responses were candid and forthcoming.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which runs New York City’s public transportation, posted regular updates with photos of work in progress on their web site.

Every company, association, and destination needs a crisis communications plan.  And, while every crisis is different,  our newsletter, The Travel PR Report, has some general hints for handling crisis communications.  For a free subscription, click here.
